This academic article examines the issue of integrity as a requirement for prosecutors. The relevance of the chosen topic stems from the importance of establishing high standards for the professional conduct of prosecutors, amongst which integrity plays a key role. It serves not only as an ethical category but also as a legally significant requirement imposed on prosecutors. The aim of this academic article is to determine the place and significance of integrity within the system of requirements for prosecutors. The requirement of integrity imposed on candidates for the position of prosecutor, as well as on serving prosecutors, is analysed. The specific features of this requirement in relation to the aforementioned categories of individuals are highlighted, as well as the procedure for declaring and verifying compliance with this requirement. It has been established that candidates for the post of prosecutor should be assessed primarily on the basis of their law-abiding conduct and adherence to general ethical principles, rather than on specific anti-corruption requirements and restrictions. It has been established that the concept of integrity is multifaceted and encompasses a range of positive and negative requirements regarding a person’s independence, honesty, incorruptibility and conscientiousness, their adherence to ethical standards, law-abiding and impeccable conduct in professional activities and personal life, as well as the legality of the sources of property, the correspondence of the standard of living of the individual and their family members to their declared income, and so on. An important marker of a prosecutor’s integrity has been identified as the absence of administrative, criminal or disciplinary offences on their part. It is argued that, in circumstances where the requirement of integrity is not explicitly provided for or regulated in the Law of Ukraine ’On the Prosecutor’s Office’, a situation of legal uncertainty arises. To address this, it is proposed to enshrine integrity among the requirements for candidates for the post of prosecutor and the duties of prosecutors. The need for further regulation of the content of this requirement is also justified; this content may be defined through a set of criteria that a prosecutor or candidate for this position must meet.
